Will Redman joined Thwaites in the March of 2020 as Distributor Manager North. The months beyond have been well documented as, its fair to say, not ‘normal’ months. As the global pandemic and Brexit continue to influence our everyday personal and business lives, they have for some time now run in parallel with a somewhat unexpected, yet extremely welcome, growth in construction machine sales. 

 So like his industry peers Will has been busy, being busy, getting to know his colleagues and distributors, taking enquiries, negotiating deals, creating quotes, converting into orders and managing delivery schedules.

The relationship with OEM sales delivery teams differs from manufacturer to manufacturer and from individual to individual. Product knowledge, company history, culture and customer relationships, were of course all part of Will’s induction and ongoing development.  As was the time spent, during the past 16 months on the machines, getting to know the range of Thwaites dumpers.

For some this would be enough, but Will wanted to know more and become more knowledgeable, particularly in truly being able to better understand why customers choose Thwaites. Not being satisfied with the time spent on the machine on and around the Thwaites test track, Will wanted to know more.

So much so that recently Will enrolled for the NPORS-360 dumper operator course, to better understand the principles of operation and how an operator really operates a dumper.

The full day, fully accredited course, was provided by leading training company Euro 1 training. Euro 1 has been providing training for over 20 years from their Yorkshire base.

Curt Cranfield from Euro 1 commented, ” We were pleasantly surprised and pleased to welcome Will.  We offer a fully accredited forward tipping dumper course ensuring each candidate obtains the correct practical skills and knowledge to operate a dumper safely, efficiently and effectively.  What we don’t always see on our courses are candidates from a sales or distribution background. Will was keen to learn and we trust the additional skills he has learned will serve him well. It really does show an ongoing commitment to the ever improving industry standards”.

In conclusion Will Redman said, “This course was very much in my thoughts throughout lockdown, the plan for the day was exactly what I was looking for, it has enhanced and advanced my dumper operating hours and skill set. There was a theory test at the end of the day, which I am delighted and relieved to say I passed”.

Will now takes his new found knowledge and wider appreciation of the role of a dumper operator with him as he further supports Thwaites distributors, Molson Young Plant Sales operating across the Scottish central belt and the Highlands, Lloyds Ltd covering the borders and northern England, Nixon Plant Sales over in the north east and BTE Plant Sales who cover the north west of England, Yorkshire and the east Midlands.
